Online Czech Courses

Would you like to learn a new language or reconnect with your Czech roots? Start with a semester of Czech. Whether you want to communicate with Czech-speaking family members, chat with locals during a visit to Czechia, build professional connections, or develop advanced language skills, you have come to the right place. Czech Center New York offers dynamic, high-quality online Czech courses taught by experienced native speakers. Our courses help students develop practical language skills while connecting them with Czech culture and a worldwide community of Czech learners.

  • Schedule: 15 online classes, meeting once a week for 90 minutes

  • Format: Small-group instruction with 4–8 students via Zoom

  • Levels offered: A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1

  • Materials: Czech language textbooks for A1 and A2 courses; online text, audio, and video materials for higher levels

  • Tuition: $600 per semester; $550 for continuing students

  • Fall 2026 semester: September 2026–January 2027

Our courses correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Not sure which level is right for you? Take a short, free Czech language placement test here.

A1 – Beginner

Learn basic vocabulary and grammar, introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions, use common expressions, and participate in short conversations.

A2 – Advanced Beginner

Build everyday vocabulary, practice common expressions and situations, give simple descriptions, and develop basic conversational skills.

B1 – Intermediate

Expand your practical vocabulary and grammar, communicate while traveling, express opinions and experiences, and produce clear, connected speech and writing.

B2 – Upper Intermediate

Study more complex grammar and vocabulary, develop greater conversational fluency, participate in detailed discussions, and produce clear, well-structured writing.

C1 – Advanced

Develop a rich vocabulary and advanced command of grammar, communicate fluently and spontaneously, understand challenging texts, and use Czech effectively in professional and academic settings.

C2 – Proficient

Understand virtually everything you hear or read, summarize information from a variety of spoken and written sources, and express yourself fluently, precisely, and with nuance in complex situations.

We do not currently offer a C2-level course.

Exams and Language-Level Assessment

The Czech Language Certificate Exam for Foreigners (CCE) is recognized by Czech authorities for permanent residency and citizenship purposes. It is also accepted by Czech universities as proof of language proficiency for admission to certain degree programs.

Our Instructors

Online Czech Courses

Šárka is a trained teacher of Czech and French language and literature. Originally from Tábor in South Bohemia, she lived in Prague for many years before moving to New York. She has more than ten years of teaching experience in elementary and high schools, language centers, and private instruction. In recent years, she has primarily taught individual lessons to both native Czech speakers and students learning Czech as a foreign language. Šárka also works as a food writer. Her two greatest passions, language and food, share an important quality: both bring people together. She looks forward to welcoming students to her classes.

Online Czech Courses

Ivana is originally from Prague, where she studied languages at Charles University. She has since worked as a translator, interpreter, and language teacher. She moved to New York with her husband in 2010 and began teaching Czech at Czech Center New York. She has two sons who speak both Czech and English and enjoys helping others discover the rich and intricate world of the Czech language. Ivana strives to create a warm, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable speaking, are not afraid to make mistakes, and gradually become more confident while enjoying the learning process.

Tuition and Payment

The standard tuition for one semester is $600.

A discounted rate of $550 is available to students who have previously completed at least one Czech language course offered by Czech Center New York.
