Do you need to demonstrate your Czech proficiency for university study, employment, permanent residence, or Czech citizenship? Czech Center New York offers online preparation courses for the Czech Language Certificate Exam (CCE) at levels A2 and B1.
The courses introduce students to the exam format and help them prepare for its individual sections through live instruction and independent work.
Levels: A2 and B1
Dates: September 29 to November 26, 2026
Length: Nine weeks, plus two additional lessons
Live classes: Tuesdays, 5:30–7:00 PM CET (11:30 AM - 1 PM EST), via Zoom
Independent work: Thursday assignments in Google Classroom
Language: Czech, with English support when needed
Tuition: CZK 6,000 (approx. $285)
The Czech Language Certificate Exam is an internationally recognized examination developed and administered by the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies at Charles University. It meets ALTE standards and is offered at levels A1 through C1 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The exam assesses reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Levels B2 and C1 also include a grammar and vocabulary section.
University study: Some Czech universities accept the CCE as proof of the required Czech proficiency. Requirements vary by institution and degree program. View the list of universities that accept the CCE.
Employment: The certificate can provide formal proof of Czech proficiency to employers in Czechia and abroad. It is also recognized for certain teaching and civil-service positions.
Permanent residence: CCE-A2 and higher are considered equivalent to the Czech examination required for permanent residence.
Czech citizenship: CCE-B1 and higher are considered equivalent to the language examination required for citizenship.
Levels A1, A2, and B1 generally take place in one day. At levels B2 and C1, the written and speaking sections take place over two days. Exams administered abroad may use a hybrid format, with the written sections completed in person and the speaking section conducted online with an examiner in Prague.
Candidates must receive at least 60% overall and in each individual section. Results are published within 30 days.
