What does a city hide behind its façades, and what remains unseen in the stories we tell about people and places? On September 16, Czech Center New York brought together four artists to explore these questions through talks, film, and sound.
Lukáš Šmejkal traced the infrastructure concealed within New York’s architecture, while Salma Jamal Moushum introduced the community-based work of Gidree Bawlee Foundation of Arts in Bangladesh, including a project preserving knowledge of wild edible plants. The evening also featured Štefi, Ten Days of Freedom, Norbert Kuki’s documentary about a gifted musician navigating a troubled prison system, and a sound performance by Anna Černíková, performing as A/C, inspired by her New York project Daydream Nation.
