Jiri Nedoma is a Czech born pianist, former member of the Czech Radio big band. With background in both classical and jazz music and wide stylistic range he is a thought after accompanist and sideman who has collaborated with award winning artists like Terri Lyne Carrington, Albino Mbie, Nadia Washington, Hal Crook and others.
His Blue Note debut will feature saxophonist extraordinaire Alex Madeline, and the band playing both their original compositions and arrangements. The performance is a part of European Sounds Series jazz festival.
Roberto Giaquinto
Italian drummer Roberto Giaquinto started out his musical journey in Naples, Italy, while still in middle school. He graduated at the Conservatorio Licinio Refice in Rome. In 2009, he was awarded a scholarship for Berklee College of Music and after moving to Boston in 2010 he was selected to be part of the Global Jazz Institute. Since coming to the States, Giaquinto has performed in many festivals and clubs such as the Blue Note NYC, Birdland Jazz Club, Kimmel Center, Detroit Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival, Nancy Jazz Pulsation, Kennedy Center, Jazz en Comminges, Red Sea Jazz Festival, Musig Im Pflegidach, Koeln Winter Jazz, Montalcino Jazz Festival, Bregenz Jazz Fest, among many others.
Giaquinto has collaborated with world renowned musicians such as George Garzone, Chris Cheek, Donny McCaslin, Aaron Parks, Dayna Stephens, Gilad Hekselman, Paul Bollenback, Troy Roberts, Miguel-Atwood Ferguson, Seamus Blake, Joe Sanders, Jake Sherman, Leo Genovese, Philip Dizack, Chris Morrissey, Michael Mayo, Jason Palmer, Steve Wilson and many more. He is currently based in New York City and he is involved in many projects such as the Daniel Rotem Group, Mike Bono Trio, Yakir Arbib Trio, Leandro Pellegrino Trio, Matthew Halpin Group, Adison Evans Quintet, Silvano Monasterios Group, Albino Mbie, Jesse and Forever etc. With pianist Yakir Arbib he has formed the band Radio Intro, a duo of improvised music that has also recorded a very acclaimed album “Sketches on the Radio” live in Canada. Encouraged by his mentor Hal Crook, Giaquinto gave life to his own project in which he plays his original compositions.
Besides teaching regularly in NYC and in masterclasses around the world, he is the founder and director of the InMotionBeat Fest, a very progressive music workshop series in Europe. He recently completed his Master Degree at the Aaron Copland School of Music (Queens College NYC), a program led by saxophonist Antonio Hart, with the research paper "How to improve your time feel and sense of rhythm" with the supervision of Professor Dennis Mackerel.
Alex Madeline
French-born saxophonist, now living in NYC, graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2016. Alex studied with such renowned musicians, including saxophonist George Garzone, Bill Pierce and trombonist Hal Crook among others. He has performed with Azeri national artist Emil Afrasiyab at the Carnegie Hall in NYC, the Mugam Center in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in Washington DC and Saint-Germain-des-Prés Jazz Festival in Paris. Alex also performed as lead tenor saxophone, featuring Jon Clayton and Terrance Blanchard with the Concert Jazz Orchestra directed by Greg Hopkins.
European Sounds Series at Blue Note Jazz Festival will take place from May 30 until July 10, 2022, and is organized in partnership with the European Union Delegation to the United Nations & The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) New York. More about the program here.
