Europeana from Divadlo Na zábradlí depicts the history of Europe in the twentieth century with distance, humor, and caustic irony. This original dramatization of Patrik Ouředník’s book offers a devastating commentary on the last century, in which war, ideology, the invention of the bra, and perforated toilet paper all play their part.
Key historical moments and everyday banalities receive equal attention, producing a new and unsettlingly precise view of our past. Through humor, irony, mystification, and concrete facts, Europeana creates a bizarre testimony to the world of the twentieth century.
Patrik Ouředník’s Europeana won Lidové noviny’s poll for the most interesting book of 2001, was nominated for the Magnesia Litera Award for fiction, and has been translated into more than twenty languages.
The production is presented by Divadlo Na zábradlí. Based on the book by Patrik Ouředník, dramatized by Dora Štědroňová and Jan Mikulášek, directed by Jan Mikulášek.
