The Czech Center New York, together with students of Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), will present a selection of films screened at the 38th FAMUFEST that took place from March 30 to April 3, 2022, in Prague and whose theme was “s3tk8ní” (Encounter).
The event will take place from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM.

This year's festival was again voluntarily competitive. Authors submitting their films could choose whether or not they want to enroll their film in the competition from the start. Overall 80 student films were presented in individual screening blocks that had been put together by the dramaturgical team based on common themes, regardless of being enrolled or not, so there were films of different types and genres in one screening session. The same diversity is preserved in the selection of films for the look-back at the Czech Center New York, and you can expect to see together short fiction, animated and experimental films of various lengths and themes.
The festival was organized with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and a media partnership with Czech Television.

A short film about ties and gaps between a child and a parent. The author rediscovers letters her dad used to write her from prison. That love seems to be gone now. She decides to write back in hope to find the connection again. She puts in writing what could not be said: blaming him for the family´s break-up but also trying to understand.

Length: 11' It's always hard to say goodbye, but an end also means a new beginning. Inspired by Hungarian folk motifs, this short animated film tells the story of a complicated relationship between two sisters, one of which is dependent on the other for help.

Horrific legends are nowadays being told about the bloody stories that took place on school premises. One is more horrific than the other, and it is Eliz who si responsible for them, a terror of the entire canteen from 5.A, who is not to be trifled with. In all the stories, she's the main antagonist, the messenger of destruction. But did they all really happen the way the boys say they did?
About the Festival
FAMUFEST is a multi-genre film festival. It is annually organized by the students of FAMU film school in Prague. It enables the visitors to see the latest work of the FAMU students. One of the festival's long-term goals is to introduce the cultural public to new talents who will co-create the future of Czech cinema, television, photography and other art media. On top of film screenings, the festival included a rich offscreen program featuring an art exhibition, scenic readings, concerts and a panel discussion. The festival's theme was s3tk8ní (Encounter) with a number pun in the title representing the year of the festival and celebrating the restored possibility of physical contact that was lacking in cinematography, festivals and at FAMU in recent years.
