Savka Marenić: Flux Factory Artist-in-Residence

The Czech Center New York is pleased to announce that architect and artist Savka Marenić has been selected for a residency at Flux Factory in New York. During her stay, she will focus on writing her upcoming speculative fiction book The Cloak, which explores neglected urban spaces, and develop a new audio-fiction piece for the exhibition Station for Paused Forecasting. Marenić's work connects architecture, performance, and storytelling to engage with public spaces and their hidden narratives.

Savka Marenić is an architect and artist who connects architecture and spatial thinking through performative site-specific installations, education, speculative narratives, and shared experiences in public space. She holds a master’s degree from the Faculty of Architecture in Prague and the Faculty of Architecture in Podgorica, Montenegro. She is currently a doctoral student at the Department of Fine Arts at UMPRUM in Prague, where she explores how fiction, imagination, and site-specific performative gestures shape our perception of space, our relationships to places and to ourselves, and how these approaches can contribute to care of environments.

Her interventions—whether in architecture, public space, or gallery contexts—often involve textile art, storytelling, fieldwork, acoustic ecology, and participatory approaches that foster collective engagement, shared experience, and co-creation within a space. She has collaborated with artistic, cultural, and educational institutions, collectives, and galleries in Montenegro, Serbia, Slovakia, Denmark, and the Czech Republic.

During her residency (09/06-10/06) at Flux Factory in New York, Savka will dedicate her studio time to writing chapters for her forthcoming speculative fiction book The Cloak, scheduled for publication next year. The book investigates vulnerable, neglected, and in-between urban spaces. While in New York, she will observe and record the city’s hidden layers and develop a new audio-fiction story to be featured in the accompanying program for the exhibition Station for Paused Forecasting, organized by the Czech Center New York and the Studio of Sculpture at UMPRUM, running from September to December 2025.
