Last week, the Bohemian National Hall was enraptured by the singular sounds of the S.E.M. Ensemble, under the baton of Czech maestro Petr Kotík.
In a spellbinding evening, the ensemble showcased compositions from the avant-garde realm of twentieth and twenty-first-century classical music. The repertoire included works by Petr Kotík, Christian Wolff, Anna Heflin, Rudolf Komorous, Petr Bakla, and Phill Niblock, and featured an array of instruments spanning from electric guitar to bassoon to whistle.
Established in 1970 by Czech composer, conductor, and flutist Petr Kotík, the S.E.M. Ensemble is the longest-running group dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. Their concert at the Czech Center was organized as part of the Year of Czech Music 2024.
