The European Literature Night 2023, organized by the Czech Center New York in collaboration with other cultural institutes within EUNIC NY and in collaboration with PEN America, took place in the Ukrainian Institute of America. The evening offered discussions, meetings and readings from the works of fantastic contemporary writers who presented their books and contributed to thought-provoking panel discussions.
The discussion panels with the authors were moderated by Clarisse Rosaz Shariyf, Chief Program Officer, Literary Programming at PEN America (the "Contemporary Literature and Global Crises" panel), and Sabir Sultan, Associate Director of the World Voices Festival and Literary Programs at PEN America ("The Past is Present" panel).
The event introduced the following authors: Lore Segal (Austria), Kateřina Tučková (Czechia), Kätlin Kaldmaa (Estonia), Sanaë Lemoine (France), Anja Kampmann (Germany), Laima Vincė Sruoginis (Lithuania), Anna Frajlich (Poland), Kat Mustatea (Romania), Kirmen Uribe (Spain – Basque Country), and Andrey Kurkov (Ukraine).
The guitar player Pedro Henriques da Silva presented his tribute to the Portuguese poets Natália Correia, Eugénio de Andrade and Mário Cesariny.
