At this exhibition commemorating 100 years since the inception of Czech radio broadcasting, we had the honor of welcoming actor, director, screenwriter, university theater professor, theater director, and politician, Tomáš Töpfer. In a specially constructed impromptu studio, he granted us a video interview where he shared his memories of his beginnings in Czech Radio, his connection to America, and other unforgettable anecdotes.
The exhibition itself opened its doors to visitors on June 29th and will continue until the end of August at the premises of Bohemian National Hall in New York. Czech Radio stands as one of the pioneers of European radio broadcasting, following in the footsteps of the British BBC, while radio broadcasting in the USA began a year earlier. All visitors have a unique opportunity to explore an engaging multimedia exposition. Through QR codes, they can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of historical news coverage and catch a glimpse of a functional replica of a radio studio, which can be used both for recording and broadcasting. Live broadcasting to Czech Radio took place during the opening of the exhibition.
Among other notable personalities who came to view the exhibition, there was the former investigator of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Vladimír Dzuro, the foreign correspondent of Czech Radio in US, Pavel Novák, iRozhlas reporter Johann Foss, and alternative music. artist and producer Never Sol, with whom we also conducted an intriguing interview during this exhibition. However, it's not just Czech guests who come across our exhibition; locals from New York who have an their interest in radio and journalism, not only within our context but on a global scale as well have come to visit as well.
