Czech Center New York commemorated the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is not the first military conflict between the two countries, but it is the largest to date. Most of the world has condemned the invasion and there has been an incredible wave of solidarity, with people and countries providing both material and financial aid for Ukraine. According to the UN, there has been an exodus of nearly 5 million Ukrainian citizens on the European territory alone. The attack has shown that freedom, national security and sovereignty are not a given.
Miroslav Konvalina, the director of Czech Center New York, participated in the Open House, an event organized by the Ukrainian Institute of America, honoring the fallen and celebrating the resilience and resistance of the Ukrainian people.
Director Konvalina also attended the concert For Ukraine: A Concert of Remembrance and Hope, organized by the Metropolitan Opera to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion, in association with Lincoln Center and the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.
Project Mariupol Digital Memorial, designed by Adrián Gubrica from the Faculty of multimedia communications at Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín, was part of the event Unbreakable Spirit: Open House in UIA.
