School kids as well as preschoolers came to the Czech Center New York at the Bohemian National Hall to enjoy the Children’s Day with a Book. On June 1, 2021, to celebrate the International Children’s Day, traditional Czech fairy tales and other books were handed out for free, and children took part in games and a photo session. The event was made possible by the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in New York.
Apart from several dozen kids with their moms and dads, there were also teachers from the Czech and Slovak School in Astoria, New York. Competition winners were rewarded with plush toys inspired by the fairy tales created by the Czech artist Zdeněk Miler. And the nicest possible response was a question from one of the schoolgirls to the director of the Czech Centre New York:
Uncle, and when are you having another event like this again?
