Open Call: New York Artist Residency

UMPRUM’s Department of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Czech Center New York and Flux Factory, announces an open call for two residency opportunities in New York for recent KVU graduates.

UMPRUM’s Department of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Czech Center New York and Flux Factory, announces an open call for two residency opportunities in New York. The call is open to artists who completed their studies at KVU no more than five years ago.

The residencies will take place in September 2026 at Flux Factory and the Czech Center New York. Selected artists will receive airfare, accommodation, per diem, and access to studio space. One residency is practice-oriented, with studio access for three weeks; the other is research-oriented, with studio access for one week.

Open Call: New York Artist Residency

The residencies are intended for the development of a new project or artistic research. Due to their limited duration, they are not designed for the physical production of new works. Each resident will also be expected to present at least one public activity, such as a workshop, presentation, or lecture.

Proposals should respond to the thematic framework of Station for Paused Forecasting, an exhibition of students from UMPRUM’s Department of Fine Arts presented at the Czech Center New York in 2025.

The exhibition explored the experience of an emerging generation of artists entering professional practice in a time of uncertainty. Projects reflecting anticipation, internal and external crises, and the shifting “landscapes” of contemporary life are especially welcome.

Application requirements:

  • portfolio as a PDF or link

  • motivation letter outlining the possible focus of the proposed research, up to one standard page

  • structured CV

Selection will be based on the quality of the submitted portfolio, the relevance of the proposed project, and the applicant’s motivation.

Dates:

  • application deadline: June 25, 2026 (extended from June 20)

  • results announced: June 30, 2026

  • residency period: September 1–21, 2026

Applications and questions may be sent to: kvu-vedeni@umprum.cz
