New Visegrad Photography

The New Visegrad Photography presents a selection of works by an outstanding group of recent photography graduates from prestigious art universities in the Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia) and Serbia. The exhibition seeks to visualize the defining traits of the Central European mentality and its perspective on global phenomena through the works of diverse emerging photographers, who will shape the art world of the region in the coming decades.Czech Republic represent authors Zuzana Fedorová, Lenka Glisníková and Václav Tvarůžka. Curator: Gábor Arion Kudasz

New Visegrad Photography, now recognized as a 'brand' in its own right in the photographic art community has already visited a number of cities worldwide. Initiated by the Liszt Institute within the framework of the Hungarian V4 Presidency, the program is on a show as a pop-up exhibition at the Artifact Gallery in New York between November 20-22, 2021.

The exhibited artworks are thematically versatile, yet parallel and interconnected in numerous ways. Most young photographers in the program focus on the questions of their own identities, some of them through personal or family stories, others through the context of the broader social or historical environment of Central and Eastern Europe. The recurring topics of the photographs revolve around female roles, the inner and outer expectations towards women, inspiration from the regions’ great tradition of social photography and the so-called New Formalism, which questions the compatibility of the technology-based images with reality and the validity of the usual perspectives.
